Printer friendly

Description:Anton Lavrin (1789 - 1869) was Consul General, researcher and Egyptologist. He sent two excellent sarcophagi, made of red Asuan granite, to Vipava. These two precious sarcophagi were discovered in the tombs of courtiers at the feet of the famous pyramids in Giza.

They belong into a group of six similarly designed granite sarcophagi the exterior of which depict facade of Old Egyptian buildings. Today, they hold the remains of Lavrin's father Jernej, his mother Jožefa and his son Albert. The sarcophagi can be seen at the Vipava cemetery.
